INGREDIENTS

BATIDA DE COCO

  • 1 oz passion fruit syrup
  • 1/2 oz coconut milk
  • 1/2 oz condensed milk
  • 1/2 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 2 oz Novo Fogo Silver Cachaça
  • half cup of ice
  • grated nutmeg, passion fruit seeds and lime (optional) for garnish

NOVO FOGO CAIPIRINHA

WHAT IS CACHÇA?

Cachaça (ka-sha-sa) is Brazil’s national spirit distilled from fresh sugarcane juice. It predates Caribbean rum by nearly a century, so you can think of cachaça as rum’s older Brazilian cousin. In addition to its long heritage, cachaça is a hugely diverse spirit category, with tens of thousands of producers throughout Brazil. Two of the most popular cachaça drinks are the Caipirinha (cachaça, lime, sugar, and ice), and the Batida (a general formula of cachaça + fruit, blended).

ABOUT MIXOLOGIST MARCUS RAGAS

Marcus has been working as a bartender for over 15 years. Several years ago he met a Brazilian client who taught him how to make a Caipirinha. He was impressed by how such a simple cocktail could be so versatile and delicious with just a little bit of imagination. In June 2020 Marcus had the chance to meet a Brazilian chef, Victor Vasconcellos, and together they’ve been working to open the first Modern Brazilian restaurant with a dedicated Cachaca and Caipirinha bar in LA.
