EVENT DETAILS

About 150,000 tons of food are thrown away every day in the US. Each household wastes about $1,500 worth of food a year, and fruits and vegetables make up about 39% of everything that we throw away. Yikes. But here's the good news: we can change that!

There are tons of delicious recipes that call for kitchen scraps of leftover foods. During this class, our chef will do a deep-dive into all the ways you can use leftover food–from veggie stocks to compost piles for your garden. Open your fridge and tell us what to cook, our Chef will guide you through the deepest compartments of your fridge (yes, YOURS) suggesting tips and tricks for using food scraps in the kitchen.

ABOUT HANS FAMA

Hans Fama is a Venice, California-born chef, baker, and gardener.  He has worked in restaurants in the Bay Area and Los Angeles since the age of 17 and most recently started his pizza pop up and consulting business Forno Fama. He worked and traveled through Europe studying various food and agricultural traditions which intensified his passion for growing Italian heirloom vegetables and baking. He has spent the last two years rehabilitating a small derelict piece of land around his house in south Los Angeles where he now grows vegetables on less than 1/8th of an acre.

HOW DOES THE EVENT WORK?

You will be part of a live, virtual cooking class. Our Chef will walk you through any old ingredients that you have lying around your fridge, and share their favorite recipes using kitchen scraps.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

Bring your random food scraps and old veggies and your creativity! You won't need to buy anything, the purpose of this workshop is learning how to cook using the ingredients you already have at home.
